The 40 Project - Intro

The time has come.

This month, something that I have been dreading for a long time will finally happen.

I will be 40 years old.

To help celebrate this oh-so special milestone, while also simultaneously kickstarting my midlife crisis, I devised something special. Something to get my ass into gear and accomplish some things long unresolved.

Thus, the 40 Project was born.

The project's main mission: to experience/complete 40 works across various forms of art and entertainment before I turn 41 years old. Instead of being randomly selected or picked on a whim, the works must all be ones that have still been unseen/unfulfilled and repeatedly been neglected by me, despite ample time and personal excitement.

For example: Seeing The Black Phone is cool and all but there are Ethan Hawke movies that have their arms crossed and been tapping their foot for some time now, namely Before Sunset and Before Midnight.

Now, I could just pick out and do 40 works and be done with it. Instead, I decided to challenge myself even further and create multiple categories, each with an end goal of 40 works. These categories include:

40 Films (Physically Owned)
40 Films (Streaming)
40 Anime Series
40 Video Games
40 Books

As time chugs along, I will be posting updates on my progress, go over all of the categories I created, and provide short reviews of the works that have been completed or are in-progress.

I'm really looking forward to accomplishing this project, even though it would have been far better to do it before I turned 40 (I came up with it last November and didn't want to rush it). I truly hope it doesn't fail badly like my Essential Film Hit List project, hence why I chose to include things other than just movies. And finally, I really hope I get some of the categories done and dusted before the end of 2026.

But that's not all, ladies and gentlemen. There are more things awaiting to premiere as part of the birthday festivities. Be sure to check out what comes to this site every Monday.
