Seriously the Academy, no Delroy Lindo for Best Actor? That's pure bullshit. I expected it from those losers at the HFPA but not you as well. Did Anthony Hopkins really need another nom from some Oscar bait that no one seemingly has actually seen?!
Can't really say much about Best Film. I think this is the first year in a very long time where I saw absolutely none of the noms.
Hey look, the Academy now realize that women direct too! It took a pandemic to really understand that sheer fact. Chloe Zhao was an easy slam dunk prediction, Emerald Fennell was a nice surprise, but it's weird that Regina King didn't complete the trio. Thomas Vinterberg getting in over her was really weird.
I'm going to have to wait until I actually see the movie but I still can't wrap my head around the fact that the two marquee stars of Judas and the Black Messiah are somehow the supporting players of the film.
Glenn Close gets a nom for her shitty hillbilly movie. Yes, she's a great actress but you have to agree that this is just Albert Nobbs all over again.
I know the Disney machine will trample Best Animated Feature yet again but I'm happy for Wolfwalkers getting in along with the absolute shocker Shaun the Sheep 2.
Another WTF snub: no Dick Johnson Is Dead in Best Documentary Feature. I knew Collective, Crip Camp and Time would likely be locks. But somehow Netflix didn't get the double whammy, with My Octopus Teacher as Dick's tag team partner, thanks to some random Chilean doc.
Happy for If Anything Happens I Love You. That is a sentence you shouldn't ever really say.
Other than Lindo, all I really wanted was for "Husavik" to get nominated for Best Original Song and luckily the Academy listened. Of course those chummy losers had to also give Diane Warren another nom so she can continue to be the Susan Lucci of the Oscars.
Da 5 Bloods only getting one nom (for Best Original Score) is a bit upsetting. But Tenet only getting two noms is priceless.
Anybody shocked and angry that The Assistant and The 40-Year-Old Version were left for dead by the Academy are truly helpless and don't understand the game.
Man, Tom Hanks just can't catch a break nowadays. I know he had no chance this year compared to previous ones but he needs to pull a Streep and Close and start wine-and-dining again.
That about does it. Tune in next month for my predictions which I obviously fail at. I say that every year but it will likely be even more so given my lack of enthusiasm for this Oscar edition.
