My Tops of 2015 - September

SHAUN THE SHEEP MOVIE was a lovable stop-motion animated film and a perfect entry point for non-fans.

INSIDE OUT revitalized the Pixar name, largely thanks to the inventive production design and a script that educates children about the human condition.

STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON was long in the tooth but its expansion look at the career of N.W.A. and the history of West Coast rap was enthralling.

AMERICAN ULTRA was a generally fine action-comedy, despite some directorial failures, that will be overshadowed by the sensationalism of screenwriter Max Landis' tweets.

WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS was a great little horror mockumentary and a refreshing breather for the found footage subgenre.

PADDINGTON was surprisingly a nice family film. The kid-friendly gross scenes were obnoxious but its gentle heart, creative look, and funny ribs at British society made it a rare treat.

6 movies this month. Let's hope (fingers crossed) that I don't get swamped by my Horrors of October and go see some more new films.
