H.R. Giger has died. He was 74 years old.
A popular joke for college students was that if you had to name a modern artist to appease an art teacher, hipsters, or a date, you would easily namedrop him. Though a talented artist in his own right, best encapsulated in his art book Necronomicon, Giger was most famously known for his work in designing the xenomorphs of the Alien film franchise. He created other notably bizarre creatures in movies such as the worm-man in Poltergeist II: The Other Side and main character Sil in Species. Video game experts will also recognize his work in the infamous PC adventure game Dark Seed.
He will be missed.
