My Tops of 2014 - May
RIO 2 is cute and colorful but its unfocused screenplay creates no momentum and no sense, especially when the rainforest animals are revealed to be hardcore racists.
CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER has some easy to spot plot twists but its homages to 70's political thrillers, the well choreographed action sequences, and the mammoth changes for the Marvel Cinematic Universe make it a stellar superhero flick.
UNDER THE SKIN had director Jonathan Glazer pull another plot reversal but it's so ambitious and breathtaking that it is sure to get better with age.
WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE is another bad movie that underutilizes JVCD, in order to create a lame yet disgusting comedy.
THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 was such a bankrupt superhero epic, my bitter hatred for it was subsided by immense melancholy.
THE OTHER WOMAN is a total insult to the genre of comedy.
DRAFT DAY could have been a sleeper if it wasn't for bad production decisions like the sweeping split-screens and the fact that the sole female co-worker had to be sleeping with the boss.
GODZILLA ticked me and much of the public off with its strict focus on the human characters instead of the monsters but it does give a big shot of life for the dormant kaiju franchise.
THE LEGEND OF HERCULES stumbles, falls, falls, and then finally splats at the bottom of the barrel.
Finally, my viewing habits are starting to pick up. My drive-ins opened their doors this month (damn you, leftover snow) and they gave me two big stinkers to deal with, back to back (not hard to figure out which ones).
